City prepares for possible postal strike

The union for urban postal workers will be in a legal strike position at midnight Thursday night.

The City of Prince Albert is still evaluating what they will do in case of a strike.

The city uses the postal service quite extensively for things like property taxes and water bills.

“Our biggest concern right now would probably be some of our bigger mailings like our water bills. We would find some method of delivery for those or simply extend the due date.” said Joe Day, the city’s finance director.

“Typically we give people over 30 days to pay. We may have to extend that payment deadline and just notify certain neighbourhoods that their area has been affected by this,” he said.

Some of the smaller notices such as zoning or local improvements to individual neighbourhoods, may be delivered in person, Day said.

City officials plan to meet in the days ahead to further discuss their strategy.
