Chamber CEO resigns with heavy heart

The Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce is looking for a new CEO.

Bergen Price is resigning from his post at the end of next month to accept a job with a pulp mill in his home town of Castlegar, British Columbia.

“It’s definitely with mixed emotions I’m leaving. I can’t say enough about Prince Albert and the optimism in this city and just how much it’s done for me … I truly loved it here,” said Bergen whose last day will be July 29.

Bergen credited his job with the chamber for jump-starting his career and he thanked his many mentors for guidance.

“I got an offer that is going to bring me back home right with my family and it was really good offer doing a position similar to myself,” he said. “I definitely would have had no opportunity at a position like that if I didn’t have the experience I gained in Prince Albert.”

“It’s been the best job I’ve ever had.”

Price said the prevailing business attitude in the city really made his career a positive one.

“The cool thing about coming to Prince Albert is we’re all about change. Just coming here people are open to new ideas and taking chances. It’s truly a cool environment for someone like my age to come into and people truly work with you to try new initiatives and work on different projects,” he said.

Price said the strong relationships he’s created within the community and helping to grow the chamber into Shellbrook are some of his highlights over his year-and-a-half.

But he’s more excited about the future of the community with the Prince Albert Pulp Mill set to reopen next year and the prospect of a diamond mine being built on the city’s door steps.

“The sky is the limit. I think the next four to five years will be an incredible time for Prince Albert, Bergen said.

The chamber has already begun the search for a new CEO.

“We’re out there trying to recruit qualified individuals, people who are experienced but we’re also looking for young enthusiasm,” said Bergen. We’re looking for the right fit, someone to keep the momentum going here at the chamber of commerce, he said.
