Hundreds of acres of land expected to be underwater soon
Twelve hundred acres of prime farmland just southwest of Saskatoon will soon be underwater.
Rain pelted Alberta this weekend and that water is moving into Lake Diefenbaker. As a result the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority's John Fahlman says they have to open Gardiner Dam and let that water out.
“It's an estimate of 12 hundred acres along the (South Saskatchewan) River Valley above Saskatoon, but I would suspect most of that would be in the Moon Lake area,” Fahlman said during a conference call with reporters.
Fahlman says if they don't let that water go, Gardiner's structure could be at risk.
