Jul 27, 2011 | 5:31 PM

Saskatoon police were busy early Wednesday morning contending with two separate incidents involving bear spray.

A 24-year-old man is facing assault charges in the first incident after allegedly using bear spray on four people at an off sales beer store.

It happened on the 2200 block of 22nd Street around 1:30 a.m. Four men were apparently hit with bear spray before the suspect tried to run away.

The victims managed to subdue the man until police showed up.

The four men suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Along with assault charges the man is facing three counts of breach of undertaking. He is expected to make his first appearance in Saskaton Provincial Court Wednesday.

Second attack occurs half hour later

In what police say is an unrelated incident, 20 to 30 people were hit with bear spray near the Centre on Circle Drive and 8th Street.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, a man entered a fast food restaurant on the 3500 block of 8th Street, sprayed bear mace into the air, and fled the scene.

A number of the restaurant's customers were suffering from the effects of the stinging spray when police arrived.

The victims were treated on the scene for minor injuries.

Police have no suspects at this time.
