Restrictions lifted

Aug 5, 2011 | 12:01 PM

Visitor restrictions at Victoria Hospital were lifted this morning.

“We are in a situation where there isn’t an outbreak, where there isn’t a significant concern about spreading,” said Doug Dahl, communications officer with the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region.

The restrictions on the surgical floor of the hospital were put in place late last week after several people were found to have Clostridium difficile.

The bacteria commonly referred to as C. difficile, causes diarrhea, fever, nausea and abdominal pain.

Four of the six cases have been discharged from the hospital after being without symptoms for more than 72 hours. The remaining two patients remain in hospital with other health issues.

This means regular visiting is allowed once again, but the health region reminds people to take basic precautions.

“We’re confident that the cleaning has been very thorough, but we do remind visitors to follow precautions including hand washing to reduce the risk of spreading the bacteria,” Dahl said.
