7000 Generation Walk

Jul 18, 2011 | 6:39 PM

There is going to be a walk to protest the storage of nuclear waste and transportation in Saskatchewan. People are walking from Pinehouse to Regina, starting July 27th, 2011.

They are going through Green Lake, Big River, Shellbrook, Prince Albert (AUGUST 2), Saskatoon and all communities in between. At the Legislature in Regina they will present a petition demanding a province-wide ban against nuclear waste storage and transportation.

As they pass through each community, they will be collecting support, signatures for the petition and water. The water of each community will be added to a larger container and represents the fact that we are all connected by water.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization has targeted Saskatchewan as a potential site for high-level nuclear waste. Using underhanded tactics and their money, this group is trying to coerce First Nations communities into agreeing to store high-level nuclear waste. Storage of this highly radioactive and dangerous substance threatens the safety of our water, the source of all life, and thus puts us all, regardless of location, at risk.

Please support someone who is willing to do the walk/work for the rest of us. Take the time to collect signatures for the petition, offer food or friendly support, or walk with them.

Please find attached the walk itinerary, petition and the open letter that goes with it. Getting people to support the petition is a priority. Please print the petition and get people to sign on by Aug 2.

Contact Rick Sawa at 922-3851 or 961-7894 to arrange for delivery (pick up) of your signed petitions.
