Nomination period for PA Carlton closed

Sep 18, 2014 | 4:27 PM

There are officially five people vying to represent the riding for the Saskatchewan Party in the next election: Cheryl Ring, David Bach, Robin Finlayson, Al Jurgens, and Joe Hargrave.

The nomination meeting will take place Oct. 1 at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre.

Anyone with a membership card can vote, or whose membership has lapsed in the past 60 days.

Five hundred people are expected to attend the meeting.

The winner will be selected based on a preferential voting system.

Anyone who votes will essentially list their preferred candidates from first to fifth.

After the first round of voting, if the person with the most “1” votes has more than 50 per cent of the vote, they would be declared the winner.

If they do not have more than 50 per cent, a second round will occur, and the person with the least amount of votes would be dropped off the ballot.

The process continues until someone has the desired per cent of the vote.

It is therefore possible that a person, who was third on the ballot throughout the initial rounds, could emerge as the winner.

Registration on Oct.1 will start at 6:30 p.m.
