A Prince Albert police officer found a lot more than a cell phone in a suspect’s vehicle on Sunday night.

The accused was pulled over after he had stopped at an intersection with no stop sign, according to Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) spokesman Sgt. Brandon Mudry.

The patrol officer pulled the man over and was dealing with warrants for arrest and a suspended driver’s licence, when the driver asked the officer to get his cell phone.

The officer noticed a weigh scale covered with what looked like drug remnants.

A search of the man’s vehicle led to the discovery of about $1,000 worth of crystal meth (4.9 grams), $500 worth of cocaine (4.7 grams), money, and drug paraphernalia commonly used for trafficking.

When it comes to how often officers in Prince Albert seize crystal meth, “we’ve seen it more and more often recently, you know it’s certainly more frequent than we’d like,” Mudry said.

The quantity of drugs, money, scale and “baggies” led to three charges for Gerald Laliberte, 32. They are possession of methamphetamine and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds obtained by crime.

He is still in custody, which an appearance at Prince Albert Provincial Court scheduled for Tuesday.

Truck theft arrests:

A pair of 16-year-old boys were up to a lot more than just stealing a truck on Friday night, according to police.

A report of a stolen white Ford truck on the 3300-block of Dent Crescent led officers to the 900-block of Marquis Drive.

The teen boys were sitting in the truck, and were arrested without problems. Mudry explained interviews after the arrest revealed they’d broken the windows and stolen items from vehicles over the course of the night.

They now face charges including motor vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and four mischief charges.

The boys were released over the weekend.

Those were the most notable events in a busy weekend for Prince Albert Police. Their weekend calls peaked on Saturday night, with 152 calls for service. On

Friday they received 101, and Sunday 79.
