Strong start to local flu clinic

Oct 16, 2014 | 6:55 AM

On Wednesday, a drop-in flu shot clinic opened at the South Hill Mall in Prince Albert.  As the second day of many for flu clinics in the province, a large crowd waited in line to get the vaccine.

A volunteer with the clinic said three nurses were giving the vaccine throughout the day and it was busy since 9 a.m. when it opened.

Cheryl Anderson said she’s been getting the flu shot every year for the past 15 years, but has had to do it differently this year.

“I get it every year at work and this year our work isn’t giving it to us, so I’m going to get it here,” she said.

She said it’s important for her to be getting the flu vaccine because it keeps her healthy.

“I haven’t been sick for eight years and I attribute it to the flu shot,” she said.

Wes Buchanan said he’s been getting the flu shot since 2005 because he doesn’t want to get the flu and his wife is susceptible to it.

“It will stop the spread of the flu,” he said of the importance of getting the vaccine.

Dennis Deschambeault said since he has diabetes and heart conditions, his doctor said it’s best for him to get the flu shot.  He said he usually gets the shot every year and thinks it is important for people to do so as well.

“With everything that’s going around nowadays, it’s not hard to catch anything,” he said.

The flu shot clinic will continue throughout the rest of this month and November at various locations in Prince Albert.  For dates, times and locations click here.

The vaccine is provided to everyone free of charge.
