Prince Albert is one step closer to reaching their goal of $260,000 towards the repair of the water slides at Kinsmen Water Park after it received a $10,000 donation on Monday.

Jody Boulet, director of the community services was excited to be a part of the cheque announcement. Boulet said one of their main partners was the one to step up – Twin Eagle Resources, which also supplies the City with natural gas.

“We’ve been working with many partners to reach that end goal,” he said.

France Financial Consulting Ltd. owns Twin Eagle Resource Management. Coincidentally, the financial company started in 1986, which is the year the Kinsmen water park opened.

The general manger of Twin Eagle, Rod Pocza, said they want to not only provide natural gas to retail locations in Saskatchewan, but also give back to the community through charitable donations.

“[We] found the Kinsmen water slide to be a project that we are really happy to help support and hopefully see a completion of the repairs to get the families back to that water slide,” said Pocza.

He said Steve Brown with the City of Humboldt was the one to suggest the water park for the charitable contribution.

“It seemed like a place where people could go and enjoy themselves and with that not operational we thought that can bring a lot of happiness to a lot of people of every age,” said Pocza.

Mayor Greg Dionne, said the City really appreciates the donation.

“To have a donation from our natural gas supplier is great,” he said. “There still giving back to the community and this $10,000 will go in a great area.”

Dionne said the total amount the City has raised towards the slides so far is $35,000. This includes $25,000 from the TSN/Kraft Celebration Tour as well as the $10,000 donation from Twin Eagle.

However, even after council adds $60,000 to that number, the City still has a long way to go.

“We probably got about $160,000 more to come up [with] which we’re getting lot of interest in and we’re soon going to make further announcements,” said Dionne.

When asked why the slide repairs are so important to the community of Prince Albert, Dionne said the water park provides Toonie Tuesdays, which is very beneficial.

“The water slides are one of the cheapest places you can take your kids in the summer time,” he said. “I have lots of single moms that I talk to and they call the Kinsmen Water Park their lake because they can’t afford to go to the lake.”

Dionne said come budget time the City we will have a better idea of how much more they need before slide repairs get underway.
