Raiders put Messier on waivers to tend to family

Nov 13, 2014 | 2:42 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders made it official that Marcus Messier won’t be a Raider for the rest of the year as he was put on waivers Thursday.

The Raiders announced that Messier went home on Nov. 8 to tend to “personal family matters,” but had left the door open for a possible return. But after discussions between Messier and the team, both sides decided that it was better for Messier to be home with his family.

Messier signed with the Raiders as a 20-year-old free agent on Oct. 23 to replace Dakota Conroy, who left the team on Oct. 19. With Messier being put on waivers, the Raiders are back to two overagers and 11 forwards.
