Nearly 2,400 drivers ticketed in Sask. in October

Nov 18, 2014 | 10:49 AM

Saskatchewan’s police officers wrote thousands of tickets in October to those who get a little aggressive behind the wheel.

In October, police were focusing on aggressive driving – things like speeding, improper signalling and lane changing, and tailgating. There were 2,225 tickets written for aggresive driving – 93 tickets were also written for aggressive driving in a school zone.

Officers weren’t just looking for aggressive driving though, they also pulled people over for other offenses. There were 43 people ticketed for speeding more than 35 kilometers/hour over the speed limit – six people were ticketed for stunting.

Speeding can cost people more than a ticket now in Saskatchewan. New seizure laws in effect mean a speeder’s car can be taken away for some offences.

It seems Saskatchewan drivers still haven’t gotten the memo about not using a phone while driving – 361 tickets were given out just for that offence.

There were also 331 people ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt, and 107 people were ticketed for impaired driving.
