Raiders’ streak snapped by Wheaties 6-3

Nov 29, 2014 | 8:20 PM

It took the beasts of the east to end the Prince Albert Raiders’ five-game winning streak.

The Brandon Wheat Kings, who lead the WHL East Conference with a 21-5-2 record and are the fourth ranked team in the CHL, outclassed the Raiders in a 6-3 thrashing Saturday at the Art Hauser Centre. The loss puts the Raiders’ record back under .500 at 13-14.

It was Teddy Bear Toss night and Raider fans only had to wait about ten minutes to rid of their plushies as Jordan Tkatch got the Raiders on the board early.

But the Wheat Kings scored the next six goals in the game, including three in the second period, to blow the game wide open. The Raiders did stop the bleeding in the third as Tkatch got his second and Jayden Hart scored to make it a 6-3 game with 6:47 left in the game.

Eric Roy got the Wheat Kings’ first goal and has always played well in the Art Hauser Centre. Roy, who played for the Prince Albert Mintos back in 2009-2010, now has five goals and 12 points in 13 WHL career games at the AHC as a Wheat King.

Roy is from Beauval and was a fifth round draft choice of the Calgary Flames in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Also scoring for the Wheat Kings were Duncan Campbell, Colton Waltz, Tim McGauley, Reid Duke and rookie sensation Nolan Patrick.

Short on the backend

The Raiders were without the services of Sawyer Lange and Hunter Warner for Saturday’s game. Lange injured himself in practice this week and could be out for an extended period of time, while Warner is having an MRI to investigate a nagging injury. Both injuries are classified as ‘upper body.’

Off to B.C.

The Raiders will embark on a seven-game road trip starting on Dec. 3 against the Prince George Cougars. Their next home game is Dec. 17 against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
