Man killed in 2-car crash on Hwy 3

A two-vehicle accident on Highway 3, eight kilometres outside of Prince Albert, killed a 61-year-old man.

According to the RCMP, an eastbound Chevrolet Trailblazer with one occupant, and a westbound Toyota Camry collided head-on just before noon on Friday.

The Camry ended up in the westbound ditch, and the Trailblazer remained in the middle of the road. The Camry’s driver, who died as a result of the accident, has not been named by the RCMP.

According to Parkland Ambulance, a 62-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman were both in good condition when paramedics took them to the hospital.

Buckland Fire and Rescue responders were on the scene, working around the vehicle in the ditch. The vehicle was covered by several sheets of tarp, and a few firefighters were crouched down in the snow behind it. Pieces of debris were scattered around the site of the accident.

The accident resulted in a significant shutdown in a stretch of the road. The busy section of highway, between Prince Albert and Shellbrook, was blocked off by fire trucks at both ends of the accident scene. It resulted in a detour along Shellbrook Road, which is expected to last for several hours.

Prince Albert RCMP and an RCMP traffic analyst are investigating the accident.
