UPDATE: Saskatoon family shaken after home invasion

A quiet night at home turned into a horror movie-like experience for a group of teens and toddlers Saturday, when a man kicked down the front door of their Pleasant Hill home just after midnight. 

The group of five teens and two young children were alone at the time while the adults were at the boyfriend’s Christmas party.

The 15-year-old daughter said they heard a man and woman fighting outside and the man may have thought the woman ran into their home. 

“He went to the back door and started banging on that door. Then he came around the front and started kicking the door in,” the girl, who did not want to be named, said. 

She said a lone police officer arrived and fought the man to the ground but the man escaped and kicked in the door, entering the home.

The girl said her only thought was to grab her two-year-old baby sister and run to the back room to hide. 

“I didn’t want my sister to go through that,” she said.

The officer ended up using a taser on the man to stop him. He was arrested and charged with break and enter, assaulting a police officer and breaching his probation.

None of the kids were physically hurt, but the girl said she was still trying to wrap her head around what happened.

On Saturday morning, blood droplets and smears were still visible on the door, porch and walkway.

“I feel really scared, almost angry after the whole situation,” the mother said. “Probably won’t be leaving the kids alone anymore.”

She said she thinks the previous home owners were drug dealers because they still have people who come to the door asking to buy drugs.
