CKBI prepares to spread Christmas Cheer

Dec 18, 2014 | 5:44 AM

The annual Salvation Army Christmas Cheer broadcast will run on Friday morning on 900 CKBI.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of the broadcast and the proceeds from it will go towards helping local families.

“Every little bit counts, there’s no doubt about that. If we help each other it will help the world and definitely our community a better place,” said Lt. Shawna Goulding.

Last year, the broadcast raised about $8,000. Goulding said the money does not last long.

“That gets dropped out of the kettle pretty quickly, that’s for sure, and on top of that, expenses have increased in their own way, so that puts a different pressure on our end as well,” she said.

All the money raised stays in the community and most of it is used during the holiday season and the rest is spread out over the course of the year.

The broadcast runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday morning on 900 CKBI.

The number to call to make a donation is 763-7421 or 1-800-667-9000.
