Renowned Hebrew scholar makes stop in Prince Albert

Jan 2, 2015 | 8:18 AM

An international scholar and chancellor of the Timothy Program International (TPI) will be making a stop in Prince Albert.

Dr. Karl Coke will be in the city from Jan 2 – 8.

The professor founded the TPI program, which is a Bible curriculum being used right now in many countries around the world.

“The Bible schools runs from certificate programs to diploma programs right into an associate arts degree, bachelor degree, master’s degree and doctorate degree, at least with the English curriculum,” Fryters explained.

The Canadian operations are run in Prince Albert by director Dr. John Fryters.

Canada is in charge of overseeing 13 sub-campuses in Peru, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Sudan with even more being developed in Uganda, Ghana and South Sudan.

In the Spanish curriculum, TPI only goes up to the diploma level.

Fryters said the curriculum is specifically designed for smaller groups and mainly delivered to indigenous people all over the world.

“We don’t want to put a racial trend on it or anything like that, but what I’m saying is that the programs been designed within the different countries and it seems to be catching on within those different countries with indigenous groups.”

He said it’s an extended family curriculum, which is something that’s important in the First Nations culture.

“(Dr. Coke) is coming to visit the campus in Prince Albert, we’re planning for the years to come and we believe this curriculum would be very good to be used within First Nations [culture], and what a better place than Prince Albert to start talking about that and looking at that.”

Fryters said this isn’t Coke’s first time visiting Prince Albert and that Coke’s well known the city’s church community.

“He’s a scholarly and brainy individual. When you speak to him he brings it down to a level where it’s so easily understood,” Fryters said about Coke.

On Sunday, Jan 4, he will be hosting service at Embassy Church at 10 a.m. and again at 7 p.m. These are open to the public. For more information call Embassy Church at 306-763-4411.
