2 confirmed dead in late-night highway collision

RCMP have confirmed two people have died after a collision last night on Highway 2. 

Yesterday at 8 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP attended the scene roughly 5.5 kilometres north of Prince Albert. A southbound pick-up truck, driven by a 30-year-old man from Little Red River First Nation, crossed over into the northbound lane and collided with an SUV driven by a 66-year-old man from Christopher Lake. 

Members of the public who arrived at the collision pulled the 30-year old man from the truck before the truck caught on fire.

Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene. A 62-year-old female passenger of the SUV was taken to hospital with multiple injuries. RCMP will not be releasing the names of the persons involved in the collision. 

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.

This has been a deadly weekend on Saskatchewan highways with eight fatalities.  

In addition to the above collision in Christopher Lake, three women died Friday after a stolen flat bed truck collided with their vehicle near Lloydminster. 

On Saturday morning a 26-year-old man from near Lanigan died after a single vehicle rollover on Highway 6 east of Humboldt. A 37-year old died when he was hit by a semi-trailer on Highway 7 west of Saskatoon and the same morning, a 70-year-old man from Dauphin was killed in a two vehicle crash on Highway 1 near Morse.
