Serious injuries after Hwy 3 collision

Highway 3 is now open after several hours of being shut down following a two-vehicle collision.

On Friday around 12:30 p.m. RCMP responded to a crash on Highway 3 South near the Muskoday Bridge, approximately 15 kilometres south of Prince Albert.

RCMP said a black car attempted to pass a grey car. When the black car pulled out to pass, it collided head-on with a white SUV.

Andy Winder was driving that grey car and witnessed the collision. 

“This car came flying by me and pulled in and almost ran into the back of a semi,” said Winder. “When they pulled out to pass him they ran into another vehicle, an SUV, that was coming the other way.”

Winder managed to avoid the crash by driving into the ditch.

Four people were injured in the collision, the driver and two passengers of the black car, as well as the driver of the SUV.

Parkland Ambulance has confirmed an 18-year-old man has serious injuries, two other 18-year-old men sustained minor injuries,  and a 62-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.

The man who was seriously hurt has been transferred to the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

Investigators were on scene assessing the crash.  RCMP said there were high winds, heavy snow and icy road conditions at the time, which could have been a factor in the incident.

With several areas in central Saskatchewan under a snowfall warning, Hwy 3 isn’t the only road experiencing winter conditions.

Highway Hotline is reporting poor visibility, drifting and blowing snow and icy conditions on Hwy 11, Hwy 2 and areas around Prince Albert.
