Astros inducted into Softball Hall of Fame
The Prince Albert Astros are now a member of Softball Saskatchewan’s Hall of Fame.
The team (2012 to 2018) was formally inducted Saturday night at the organization’s awards night in Saskatoon at the Ramada Hotel. Astros Coach Kevin Preymack was among the coaches in attendance to accept the award.
“Winning the award was a great accomplishment for the Astros players, parents and coaches. It takes a huge commitment and countless hours to be part of a winning team,” he said.
Over the past seven years, the Astros won six provincial gold medals, two western Canadian championships, and a bronze medal at nationals. Preymack said he was also proud of the team’s four-year winning streak from 2012 to 2015.
“The Astros’ success comes from the players taking it upon themselves to practice on their own when they have spare time. Also when it’s time to turn it up notch they always find away to win,” he said.
Pitcher Troy Preymack has been with the team for the past eight years. He said the secret to the team’s success has been the trust the players have in one another.
“Always believing in each other at all times, never putting each other down and cheering even if if you aren’t playing,” he said. “If you have trust in one another you feel you can do anything and can achieve your goals together.”
The Asquith – Perdue Bisons (1978 – 1985) were also inducted Saturday night.
