An enjoyable evening for a humble Citizen of the Year winner

Prince Albert’s Citizen of the Year couldn’t stop smiling as she entered a room full of people at the Prince Albert Inn on Friday who were happy and supportive of her new honour.

Jeannette Eddolls said she is not familiar with being in the spotlight and her daughter Colleen agreed, saying her mom is an extremely hard worker and “never does work for acknowledgement.”

“I think that if a person has good health and capacity and time, you should give to your community, you should help others up in whatever way you can,” said Eddolls.

Eddolls said she was stunned and overwhelmed when she was chosen for the award. She said it is truly a humbling experience to be chosen.

“There are so many people that contribute to this community and so there [are] many, many other people that could have been chosen at least equally, if not better or more deserving than me,” said Eddolls.

In early January, more than 20 people wrote letters to the Kinsmen Club on behalf of Eddolls, saying how deserving she was of the citizen of the year award.

The club’s president Daren Solomon said they look for someone who goes above and beyond to help their community and Eddolls fit that bill.

As the chair of the Catholic Family Services board Eddolls spent many years volunteering with the organization and several others around Prince Albert.
