RDAR boosting funding available for agriculture research

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. – Results Driven Agriculture Research says it is nearly doubling the amount of money it has available for projects.

It is adding $3 million to the initial funding of $4 million.

The organization says this is because of what it terms ” the immense response” from researchers. RDAR’s first call for proposals drew 117 applications, which RDAR describes as “meaningful, innovative, and results-driven.”

RDAR says it has begun to approve some applications and to notify researchers. It did not mention any specific projects, or the amount of money given out.

The funding comes from the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada.

“This is an exciting milestone, not just for RDAR, but also for farmer-led research in Alberta. In less than a year since its incorporation, RDAR has taken one more step toward transforming agriculture research,” says Alberta Agriculture and Forestry Minister Devin Dreeshen in a release posted to the RDAR web site.

“The impact of this research will be felt in the industry for years to come, making our farms and ranches more competitive and profitable,”

The target areas for RDAR-funded research include soil health and quality, water quality and efficiency, feed production, and plant and animal diseases and pests.
