Search begins in bitter cold for man missing from Laird

Nov 29, 2024 | 10:06 AM

Searchers are being warned to dress for the –30°C weather as the effort ramps up to find 60-year-old Clayton Cameron, a resident of Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation (BOCN) who has been missing since Tuesday.

Using social media, leaders at Beardy’s said this morning that SARSAV, a provincial volunteer search organization, has been contacted to work with BOCN Emergency Management to help find Cameron.

He was last seen on Tuesday evening at a bar in Laird, where his last bank transaction was also done.

Yesterday, his truck was found abandoned in the rural area, about six kilometres northeast of the community. His cell phone was found inside.

Cameron is described as a 5’5” in height, weighing 178 pounds with brown eyes and grey hair. He was last seen wearing a blue ballcap, black jacket, blue jeans and blue runners.

BOCN carried out a search yesterday using a dog and drones but did not find anything.

Volunteers to help search should report to the fire hall for instructions but, with temperatures at around -30°C, people need to dress for the weather.

Property owners are asked to check their farm outbuildings and sheds.

Information should be called in to the RCMP at 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
