Agriculture Roundup for Friday December 9, 2022
MELFORT, Sask. – A new contest is asking Canadian growers how they outsmart pest resistance on their farms.
The Pest Management Challenge is hosted by Manage Resistance Now, a collaborative effort of industry, academics, and government experts brought together by CropLife Canada to raise awareness and promote the adoption of strategies to manage weed, insect, and disease resistance.
CropLife Canada Plant Biotechnology Jennifer Hubert said it’s a way to get farmers thinking about resistance management issues in their fields and then reward them for sharing their own experiences.
“Canadian farmers are already dealing with resistance issues on their farms and the Pest Management Challenge is an opportunity to get people talking and to encourage the adoption of resistance management best practices,” Hubert said in a news release. “After all, this is critical to protecting crop yield and quality today and to ensure continued access to technologies to support sustainable production going forward.”
