A Saskatchewan couple will soon represent the province in the upcoming Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers’ (COYF) National event.

Cody Straza and Allison Squires, organic growers from Wood Mountain, are one of seven honourees being recognized after being named as the province’s most outstanding young farmers back in June.

The event is being held in Saskatoon from Nov. 23 – 27.

“We will bring the regional winners to Saskatchewan and in OYF tradition they will start to build relationships and forge new friendships,” said Steve Cooper, COYF President.

The other honourees include farmers/growers from Keremos, British Columbia, Black Diamond, Alberta, Marchand, Manitoba, Delhi, Ontario, St Honore de Shenley, Quebec, and Alberton, Prince Edward Island.

To be eligible, each must be between the ages of 18 and 39, while also exemplifying excellence in their profession and fostering better urban-rural relations.

All honourees will get a chance to share their stories during the event.

“We hope you will enjoy the event as we share some agricultural advancements as well as take you back to our roots,” added Derek Axten, Saskatchewan OYF regional chair. “We look forward to discovering new technologies at the U of S, Brandt Manufacturing and John Deere, while also exploring our history at Wanuskewin Heritage Park under the ‘Land of the Living Skies’.”
