COVID Vote

Elections Canada says there are no more options to vote for people facing isolation

As COVID numbers continue to surge across the province, and with a major election scheduled for next week, the question has come up about what to do and how to vote if you are facing isolation.

According to Elections Canada, if that person was unable to take advantage of advanced polls or mailing in their vote, they will not be able to go to a poll next Monday and vote.

“There are no more options. Unfortunately, after advanced polls and after the deadline for mail-in ballots, there are no other options but to vote at your designated poll on polling day,” Marie-France Kenny, regional media advisor with Elections Canada told paNOW.

“Hopefully, most of those people asked to vote by mail or went to the advanced polls, or voted by special ballots.”

Elections Canada sent out 1,884 voting kits to people in Prince Albert who applied for mail-in voting.

They can still work with any voter who is still unregistered.

“People can register at the poll,” Kenny said. “There will be a registration table there. That person can find their polling station online, by typing in their postal code on the Elections Canada website.”

Masks will be mandatory at polls on Monday. Hand sanitization will also be enforced, as well as social distancing.

“If you don’t have a mask, we will provide one for you,” Kenny added.

The election is set for this coming Monday, Sept. 20.
