ADVANCE POLLS

Advance polls now open in P.A. and across Saskatchewan

Sep 10, 2021 | 12:29 PM

With the federal vote almost one week away, those wishing to line up to vote early can now do so.

Advance polls officially opened Friday morning across Saskatchewan and will stay open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. until Monday.

Dozens had already lined up to vote when the advance poll station at Gateway Mall opened at 9 a.m. and the line kept growing.

Those who waited in line said they chose to come to the advance polls because it was convenient.

“I had a day off and easy to get in today,” said one woman waiting in line.

“Originally, we had a doctor’s appointment on the 20th,” said one man who came to vote with his wife.

Elections Canada said vaccinations or proof of vaccines are not required if you’re heading to an advance poll.

While masks are not mandated in Saskatchewan, Elections Canada is abiding by landlord policies when it comes to masking. For example, if a polling station is set up in a school that requires masks, you will need to wear one when voting.

Voters who choose not to wear a mask at these stations or can’t wear one for medical reasons are encouraged to apply to vote by mail before the deadline on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.

In the 2019 election, Elections Canada said nearly five million people voted at the advance polls nationwide.

Election day is scheduled for Sept. 20 where voters will cast their ballots from 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
