Mixed reaction to AgriStability deal from Alberta Beef Producers

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. – Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) likes most of the new deal around AgriStability, but there was one disappointment for the organization.

ABP says in a news release it welcomes the removal of the reference margin limit, adding this means another $95 million is now available through AgriStability, something it thinks makes the program more equitable and predictable.

The reference margin removal limit removal is retroactive to 2020 and the deadline to enroll has been extended from April 30 to June 30.

ABP says though it is disappointed the compensation rate was not raised to 80 per cent as this would have meant another $170 million in support, but is pleased to see the offer still stands.
