P.A. schoolgirl’s viral video nears million views

A Prince Albert schoolgirl has been getting plenty of attention since a social media post went viral a year ago.

The Facebook video taken by Rebecca Strong’s dad of her singing the Demi Lovato song Sober, is now just shy of 1 million views. It took off in a big way just days after it was posted in January, 2019 and has kept marching towards the landmark total.

You can watch the Facebook post here.

“I remember I looked at it [in Jan. 2019] and it was at 200,000,” Strong told paNOW. ”I was so excited I took a picture of it, and I didn’t think it would grow after that.”

The post has certainly grown – to the brink of that special seven-digit mark – and so has the interest in Strong’s obvious singing talent.

“A lot of people have been reaching out to me offering me gigs and to sing at certain events and ceremonies as the opening act,” she explained.

The Ecole St. Mary student is from a performing family with roots in Stony Rapids in the North. She has been part of gigs with her dad and sisters as Thunder and The Sky Dancers. She has also been on stage at the SaskTel Youth Awards, Voice of the North, and will be part of Search For The Stars in P.A. later this month. She has a number of videos on her social media channels.

Asked if she modelled herself after any particular artist, Strong said while she liked to cover the likes of Adele and Alicia Keys, she very much wanted to project her own voice.

“I don’t really like to compare myself to anyone famous because people might think I’m either better or worse than them …and I just want to be thought of as Rebecca Strong.”

As her stunning social media post nears the million mark, it has certainly helped fuel her desire to make a go of a musical career once she leaves school.

“I want my singing to skyrocket,” she said. “It takes a lot of work, but I want to live the dream of a super star.”

Editor’s note: the video surpassed a million views soon after this article was published.
