Phone a Friend!

I’ll call it a smartphone when I yell “Where’s my phone?” and it yells back, “Down here in the couch cushions!”

You know how sometimes someone pops into your mind kind of out of the blue? Maybe it’s a family member, an old friend or a past colleague. You reflect for a moment on a past memory, have a smile and carry on with your day.

Well, in January 2019 I made a commitment to myself to implement a project Phone a Friend. Inspired by my colleague who phones his friends on their birthdays (the one thing I can count on is that Mom and Brian will phone!) I decided that when someone ‘popped into my head’ I would call them. Like on the phone. The telephone. Not text, not email, not just a private smile to myself and then carry on with my day – I would actually pick up the phone and hope they answered.

It’s been quite a cool year and I can verify that to date 55 people have picked up the phone to talk to me! As well, I left 25 messages just to say ‘hi’ to people that either didn’t want to talk or were busy. I think I can say with a fair amount of certainty that all but one person was happy to hear from me!

#awkward

That’s okay, the one school friend that actually cried in happiness when I called her more than made up for the one sort of odd experience.

Most times I had to preface the call with, ‘Nothing is wrong and I don’t want anything.’ before we could really have a good conversation, but by the end of the call I think we were both a little happier than before  the phone rang.

I’m not saying you should implement project Phone a Friend (although of course I encourage it!). I am asking you to think about how you are connecting with people at present and if there might be a way that you could up a tad that would benefit both of you.

Project Phone a Friend – it’s just one more way to live Your Life, Unlimited!

Best, Steph

PS – Let me know if you’d like a call!
