St. Mary senior girls win rivalry game

The École St. Mary High School senior girl’s volleyball team picked up a big win Wednesday night.

The Mauraders beat the Carlton Comprehensive High School Crusaders to take the unofficial city championship for 2018.  

“Currently (the game) has no value as far as moving to provincials or regionals or anything, but for the kids it’s exciting and they talk about it every year,” Shaun Hunko, the coach of the École St. Mary Mauraders team, said.

The Mauraders won the match winning three sets to one. The scores were 25-16, 16-25, 25-23, and 25-22.

The game is one which brings out a large number of fans every year from both schools.

“It’s quite a spectacle because students from both schools they dress up, so St. Mary’s dresses up in their blue and Carlton in their red,” Hunko said.

The school’s senior boy’s teams will play Monday night at Carlton.
