City’s annual playground program begins July 3

The summer tradition of games, crafts, songs, stories, sports and special activity programming at city parks gets underway in July.

Led by trained playground leaders, the activities, varying in themes each week, are planned around each park for children to partake in entertaining outdoor activities.

New to the program in 2018 will be the spray park at the  Crescent Acres Community Club, which will open July 3. Also new is  Little Red River Park Outdoor Day Camps in August. These camps are for children 8-12 years of age and require registration.

A highlight of the annual playground program is KidzFest, planned for Thurs., July 19  in Kinsmen Park. There will be entertainment throughout the afternoon including a magician, stilt walkers and a children’s circus.

All of these programs are offered free of charge and operate on a drop-in basis. The programs run at the Bernice Sayese Centre Monday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; the Midtown, Crescent Acres, Miller Hill, Crescent Heights, Parkland, Westview, Hazeldell and West Hill locations Monday to Thursday, noon to 5: 30 p.m. and Fridays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and  Ella Muzzy (Kinsmen Park) Monday to Thursday, noon to 5: 30 p.m., Fridays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends from 1 p.m. to  5  p.m.
