Knife-wielding man arrested by P.A. police

A 31-year-old Prince Albert man was accused of causing a ruckus Monday night at a business in Prince Albert’s Cornerstone Shopping District.

According to poilice, the suspect threatened people with a knife and then locked himself in the building’s washroom. When officers arrived, the man was arrested without incident, though police said two large knives were found in the washroom.

Kent Merasty made his first appearance Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court, and was remanded to appear again Wednesday. Merasty is charged with possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and breaching a probation order to not possess knives. He is presumed innocent at this stage.
