The Saskatoon Stars struck first in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League finals. They beat the Prince Albert Northern Bears 5-3 in Game 1 of the best-of-five series. Game 2 will be Sunday night, 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Bears were down 3-0, 13 minutes into the second period but got goals from Abby Soyko and Camryn Amundson to make it a 3-2 Stars’ lead heading into the third.
Stars forward Grace Shirley scored her second of the game to make it 4-2, four minutes into the third before Bears forward Jasper Desmarais answered exactly a minute later to draw the Bears within one.
But Mackenna Parker scored with five minutes left on the power play to put the game out of reach.
