SPCA losing another new facility founder

More changes are in store for Prince Albert’s SPCA.

Leanne Roberts, director of operations for the Prince Albert SPCA recently announced after 10 years of hard work, love and devotion to the SPCA and its cause that she has made the tough decision to step down from her position.

Although it was not an easy decision to make she said it is the right decision for her at this time.

“The last 10 years have been for the most part very positive and fulfilling but I need to slow down a bit,” she said. “It’s time to take some time for myself and my family.”

The Prince Albert SPCA has experienced a number of major changes over the last year, some happy and some sad. Last June after years of hard work and fundraising efforts the SPCA finally made the move from their old facility to their brand new facility at North Industrial Drive.  Shortly after in October Debbie Lehner the SPCA’s executive director who helped spear head the organizations fundraising efforts announced her resignation.

“Everyone has to move on,” said Roberts.  “Debbie left us in October and she left a huge gap, she got this place built basically and had it not been for her drive and dedication we wouldn’t be here today, but it was her time and now it’s mine.”

Roberts said that although she is stepping down from her position as director of operations it doesn’t necessarily mean she will remain out of the picture.

“I will still foster from the SPCA if they need me and help out with fundraisers if time allows,” she said.   “I don’t want to distance myself from them in any means.”

Roberts said she will miss the staff at the SPCA but has full confidence that they will be able to pick up where she left off and move forward.

“I think I will miss them almost as much as I will miss the job, maybe more even, but we are all going to keep in touch,” she said.

“I want to thank the board of directors and everyone I have worked for and with over the past 10 years. It’s kind of bitter sweet but I know it is the right thing for me and I am looking forward to moving on.”

Roberts last day is April 23.
