RCMP say distress call was a ‘hoax’
The Saskatchewan RCMP has learned three young girls are behind a phony distress call made to the Carrot River detachment that sparked a search for a woman believed to be missing.
On Jan. 31, Carrot River RCMP received a complaint about a snowmobile accident. A girl who called herself Cassandra dialed a wrong number while trying to call her grandmother. She said she was with her sister and was disoriented.
RCMP officers were not able to get in touch with her, as the number was blocked.
In the days following, local search teams scoured the area and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association from La Ronge conducted a four-hour search.
