Sask. liquor retail consultation closes Friday

Jan 30, 2015 | 11:40 AM

Friday marks the last day to have your say on if Saskatchewan should change how it sells alcohol.

In November, the province released an options paper and launched a consultation process looking for the public’s input on what option is best. The survey asked people whether they like the current system, want to expand the current system, or go to some form of a private system.

The province says more than 5,500 people have given their input already – a number that may grow as the survey closes.

“What we’ve learned through this consultation is Saskatchewan residents do have a lot to say about the way liquor is retailed in the province,” said David Morris, spokesperson with the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.

Morris said that there have been strong supporters for every option presented on the survey.

“Once the consultation ends, government will take some time to review and compile all the comments and feedback provided through the website. From there we expect to share the information and feeback with the public in mid February.”

Morris isn’t sure yet just how much of the information will be shared.

Whatever conclusions can be made from the input will be passed on to government, which will be in charge of determining any changes.

The public can give their input on the consultation website until the end of Friday.
