Community Moving Challenge Offers $10,000

Jan 14, 2015 | 8:30 AM

What would your community do with $10,000 to get more kids, more active, more often?

Saskatchewan Blue Cross and Saskatchewan in motion are challenging Saskatchewan communities to take part in the 2015 Get Our Community Moving Challenge powered by Saskatchewan Blue Cross.  By taking on the challenge, your community has the chance to win a grand prize of $10,000 for a community project or initiative that increases physical activity opportunities for children and youth.

This is an exciting opportunity to get more kids, more active, more often in your community! The prize money can fund any project, program or initiative that increases physical activity opportunities for children and youth. The challenge will take place March 2 – 16, 2015. This year’s challenge is shaping up to be the most exciting yet, with the addition of a $5000 runner up prize, a $1000 school prize, as well as individual incentives!

Here’s how your community can take on the Challenge:

Visit the Challenge website challenge.saskatchewaninmotion.ca to download registration information.
Gather partners/committees and pick a project that could use an extra $10K to get kids moving. The sky is the limit –some great ideas include:

  • Learn-to programs
  • Active afterschool initiatives
  • Spray Park
  • Park/Playground upgrades
  • Active summer programs

Get the Mayor or Chief involved! Tell them about this opportunity and your great project idea.

Review the Challenge rules, complete the registration form and tell us all about your project.

Make sure to have the registration form signed by your Mayor or Chief and send it to Saskatchewan in motion by midnight February 13, 2015.

Think of events and promotion ideas you could host in your community to help your community get active and register the most minutes of physical activity in the challenge! Get creative, here’s a few ideas from previous challenges:

  • S’more Minutes Skating Night
  • Try-it night at the rec centre
  • Open the school-gym night
