Animal Care Attendant
Position: Animal Care Attendant
Reports to: Director of Operations, SPCA Shelter
Type: Permanent Full-time
Rate: $11.00 per hour

Prince Albert SPCA Mission Statement: The Prince Albert SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a caring and humane attitude towards all living creatures; securing and enforcing the Animal Protection Act, 1999; and providing animal care services to the Prince Albert Community.

Position Summary:
Responsibilities include feeding and cleaning of animals, giving medications, and other animal care related duties. Hours: 30-35 hours per work week (4 days on 2 days off, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.).

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
● Clean, feed, medically treat, and provide all necessary care for all animals within the shelter as assigned.
● Ensure the safety and security of animals within the Shelter at all times.
● Refer any behavioral or medical concerns to the Director of Operations.
● Work effectively with staff from other departments to properly identify and document information on each animal that comes into the Shelter.
● Attend training sessions with pay as required.
• Work with; and provide support to, other staff and volunteers as required.
• Perform duties and conduct all interactions in a professional and courteous manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:
● Responsible individual, committed to the mission of the Prince Albert SPCA.
● Must be physically capable and able to carry out job duties in an efficient and thorough manner. Ability to lift and haul heavy bags and boxes – up to 50 or 75 pounds.
● Education and/or experience in animal care and handling a definite asset.
● Ability to work on weekends and some holidays as required.
● Good observation and reporting skills.
● Excellent communication skills both orally and written is necessary.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Have a genuine love for animals and the physical strength to control animals and work well with all sizes and breeds of cats and dogs.
• Demonstrated efficiency, timeliness and professionalism in the accomplishment of assigned duties.
• Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
