No foul play considered in sudden death

Jan 12, 2015 | 1:05 PM

Ron Clark, Cst. with Deschambault Lake RCMP said a sudden death isn’t something they see often and they have not dealt with any other similar circumstances.

After midnight on Jan. 2 the Deschambault Lake Detachment of the RCMP were called to the Deschambault Lake High School parking lot.

When RCMP arrived on scene a snowmobiler reported they had found an 18-year-old man, from Deschambault Lake, laying in the snow freezing to death.

Alcohol is considered to be a factor, after an autopsy was completed in Saskatoon.

“We do know that he had been drinking during the evening but we know that he was heading home and that’s the last that we know,” said Clark.

The man was last seen going home at around 5:30 a.m. and at the time RCMP said there were extreme cold weather conditions.

“I’m not sure exactly how cold it was at the time that the young man fell in the snow, but it was probably around  -29 degrees C and then there was a wind chill that would have put it below -30 degrees C,” said Clark.

So far the victim’s name has not been released.

A funeral for the 18-year-old was held on Friday.
