Raiders routed in Moose Jaw
The Moose Jaw Warriors broke open a scoreless game scoring four goals on four shots in the second period and cruised to an 8-2 win over the Raiders. The fourth goal which gave the Warriors a 4-0 lead at 10:23 of the middle frame was the final shot of the night for Raider goalie Rylan Parenteau who had faced only 10 shots at that point. Nick McBride would also be victimized four times on 10 shots.
It was a slow plodding game from beginning to end and Raiders Associate Coach Dave Manson told the 900 CKBI post game show audience the team simply didn’t follow the game plan, was unwilling to go into the scoring areas and were often caught holding on to the puck too long. The Raiders disputed the opening goal by Juri Smejkal on a breakaway claiming the back official blew his whitsle during a dust up between Raider defenseman Colton Heffley and Warrior winger Jaimen Yakubowski, but after a huddle the officials ruled the goal went in before the whitsle. However Manson pointed out the team’s problem went much deeper than that, namely the numerous odd man rushes and defenseive breakdowns that resulted in Moose Jaw goals.
The lone Raider highlight was Reid Gardiner’s unassisted shorthanded goal as he blew past Warrior defenseman Tyler Brown and went top shelf on sprawling goalie Zach Sawchenko. Cory Millete’s conversion of a Tim Vanstone rebound accounted for the other Raider goal.
Jesse Shynkaruk led the Warrior attack with three goals, Tanner Eberle added a pair with singles to Jack Rodewald, his fifth of the season against the Raiders and Ben Duppereault
