World Junior Championship kicks off NYE with home rivalry

Dec 31, 2014 | 6:11 AM

Two North American rivals face off in the World Junior Championship on New Year’s Eve and many bars in Prince Albert will be preparing for the game.

Carla Swabe, manager at Boston Pizza, said they play every World Junior Canada game in their lounge, offering prizes like team Canada Jerseys.

Their lounge holds more than 100 people, but if you’re looking to extend the festivities beyond the World Juniors game you’d better make a reservation now because evening tables are going quick for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Over at Mr. Mike’s they plan to broadcast the game as well, according to supervisor Dough Whyley.

He said they’ve already talked about the upcoming game and are prepared for the influx of extra people who will undoubtedly be looking to add some beer and appetizers to their World Junior hockey-watching experience.

The newly opened Steak House will be open at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Original Joe’s manager Alan Greene said they’ve been offering to broadcast all Team Canada World Junior Championship games with volume.

And if you’re looking for a microbrew to go with your hockey fun you can head over to Prince Albert Brewing Company who have also been broadcasting every Team Canada game during the World Juniors as well.

Canada will be hitting the ice at 3 p.m. local time to take on Team USA.

And why ruin a fun night by driving home after having a few drinks, when Operation Red Nose will get you to your destination safe and sound if you happened to bring your car with you to the bar.

Just call 306-763-6673 and they’ll come pick you and your vehicle up and take you home.
