Wakaw, Humboldt regions under drinking water advisory

Dec 31, 2014 | 11:55 AM

Power outages may be in the past for the Wakaw and Humboldt area, but now they have another issue.

The Water Security Agency has issued a boil water advisory.

This is because the outages left the regional pipeline with limited treated water.

The depressurized pipeline has the agency asking people to boil water before drinking.

In effect, the Water Security Agency notifies all consumers in the area to bring all tap water to a rolling boil before they drink it.

They also ask people to avoid brushing teeth, washing vegetables, or making ice cubes with tap water.

When washing dishes, people should soak utensils in a bleach water solution to kill any present bacteria.

Showering and bathing should be safe as long as swallowing the water is avoided, according to the Water Security Agency.

The advisory will be lifted once the water has passed Water Security Agency quality tests.
