Amundrud and Blades blank Raiders

The Saskatoon Blades rode the 35 save performance of goalie Nik Amundrud to a 5-0 win over the Raiders in Saskatoon to sweep the home and home series to open the second half of the season.

The 17 year old from Melfort made his best stop late in the third period with a glove save on a Simon Stransky shot that appeared headed for the top corner of the net.

Sam McKechnie opened the scoring tapping in a Ryan Coghlan pass after a turnover at the Raider blue line just 2:08 into the game and stuffed in the game’s final goal on a power play in the opening minute of the third period. The overage winger had four goals and two assists over the weekend. His linemate Nikita Soshnin scored twice, beating Raider goalie Nick McBride on a power play rebound 7:39 into the first period and surprised McBride with a sneaky snap shot from the high slot just past the four minute mark of the second period. McBride denied the 17 year old Russian’s bid for a natural hat trick with a point blank save moments later. Soshnin finsihed thw weekend with three goals and two assists. 

Saskatchewan boy Alex Forsberg put the game away late in the middle frame with an unassisted coast to coast rush by finishing with a high rising wrist shot giving the Blades a 4-0 advantage heading to the third period.
