City names new public works director

Dec 24, 2014 | 12:37 PM

Prince Albert filled its last vacant department head position at City Hall with the hire of a new public works director.

The City hired Amjad Khan, who is currently working as the engineering manager in Cold Lake, Alta. He will take over the position in Prince Albert on Jan. 5.

In a statement released on Wednesday, city manager Jim Toye said Khan stood out as a strong leader.

β€œHe has a vision and a sense of what he would like to accomplish in the [d]epartment,” he said.

Toye went on to re-iterate the importance of public works, as infrastructure is a growing concern for municipalities across Canada.

β€œI think we have found someone that brings not just considerable education and experience to the role, but the appropriate leadership abilities and innovative problem-solving skills we are looking for in our senior management team.”

Khan takes over the role vacated this summer by Colin Innes, who left Prince Albert to take over the role of director of public works and utilities for the City of Nelson, B.C.
