51st Winter Festival moves to new location
The 51st Prince Albert Winter Festival is undergoing a few changes, including finding a new location: the area around the Alfred Jenkins Field House.
President of the Prince Albert Winter Festival Barry Mihilewicz said they love hosting the festival by the river, but it just isn’t practical to make plans at a location where conditions can change so rapidly.
“The river location has always been a problem because … you never know if you can actually use it until you go out on the ice, which is typically about the middle of January and drill a bunch of test holes to make sure that it’s safe,” he said.
After these tests, Mihilewicz said you still don’t know what will happen. “You know [the] current change[s] or the weather gets warmer and the ice may not be safe.”
