Carlton wrestler grapples with success

Dec 19, 2014 | 4:14 PM

With the wrestling season just starting, Grade 12 student Tyler Dupuis wants to have a big year.

Although he didn’t start wrestling until he was in grade 10, he has been hooked since he started.

“I got involved with wrestling because I saw the posts…about how successful people were…and it motivated me to go try it and I’ve been hooked since,” Tyler said.

Tyler’s work ethic and commitment to getting better, has not gone unnoticed. He has impressed his Coach Kevin Lavallee.

“One thing I like about Tyler is his tenacity, regardless whether you think you have him in a bad position or not. He will not give up, and he will eventually escape and in most cases beat you,” Lavallee said

Last year Tyler fought at 69 kg and finished third in provincials for his weight class. He hopes to improve on that in his senior season.

“My goals for wrestling this season are to keep on improving every single practice for I’m in a position to compete for gold in provincials at the end of the year,” Tyler said

The Carlton wrestling team’s next tournament is at Tommy Douglas in Saskatoon, on January 16th and 17th.
