U.S. relationship with Cuba could impact cigars sold in Regina

The United States and Cuba are on the road to mending a strained relationship, but that could have an effect on cigar shops in Regina.

The US is proposing that American travellers to Cuba would soon be allowed to bring $400 worth of goods back with them—including a combined total of up to $100 for alcohol or tobacco products for personal use.

However, there are questions surrounding what exactly “normalizing relations” means and some Americans are hoping that could eventually open the door for trade restrictions to be loosened even further down the road so that Cuba could directly send its cigars to America.

Employees from both Jade’s Smokers Corner and Spunky’s Nuttery Bar in Regina told News Talk Radio if that happens the price, the supply and even the quality of their cigars could be impacted. The exact extent isn’t known yet, as both shops would have to consult with their distributor first to get a better idea.
