Royals rest 1-0 win from road riding Raiders
The Raiders have beaten the odds, but not they way they wanted to. They suffered a second consecutive 1-0 loss as Tyler Soy’s third period screen shot was the only time the red lamp was lit Tuesday night in Victoria. He broke a scoreless tie at 3:19 of the final frame on a night that puck luck eluded the Raiders once again.
They missed several opportunities to get on the scoreboard early. It looked as if Gage Quinney would score during the Raiders two man advantage of 1:17 early in the game but his back door deflection went off both posts and stayed out. Quinney was also stopped on a point blaknk defelction after nifty feed second period feed from Simon Stransky. The Raiders would end the night 0-for-4 on the power play while killing all six Royals advantages including four alone in the second period.
Assistant Coach Kelly Guard told the 900 CKBI post game audience they didn’t get enough traffic in front of winning goalie Coleman Volrath who made 34 saves for his second shutout of the season. However he also had high praise for Rylan Parenteau saying the 18-year-old from Saskatoon remained calm throughout the game. His biggest of 24 saves came on Taylor Crunk’s shorthanded breakaway late in the first period.
Winger Cory Millette didn’t dress because of an ilness and Curtis Roach was inserted into the line up and took some shifts as a forward. In fact he had a great scoring chance in the third period when the puck jumped over his stick while stationed in the slot.
