Saskatchewan from space as photographed by Chris Hadfield

Dec 3, 2014 | 10:57 AM

Chris Hadfield is in Regina to speak at the Conexus Arts Centre about his out-of-this-world travels and what he learned on his journeys.

While  on board the International Space Station, he sent back to Earth via Twitter photos he was taking of various locations.

He later explained how the idea came about to tweet the images. His son suggested he ask people what types of images they wanted to see. Hadfield says the most common response was — their hometowns.

He even explained his understanding of why seeing those images was important to people.

“They have an ache and a desire to see how they fit in with everything else. It’s a dawning self-awareness, like seeing yourself in a mirror for the very first time, but on a global scale,” he told Quartz.

Regina and Moose Jaw were just some of the communities he collected in addition to natural wonders as seen from space.

Here are the tweets and images he sent out about what he photographed of Saskatchewan.
